The first task was the design and construction of a suitably rigid pier for mounting the telescope and wedge. It
was manufactured at a local machine shop from 6" steel pipe with a 1/4" wall and 1/4" plates, assembled to my specifications.
The job was not perfect but was well within my acceptable ranges.
The completed pier was wiped down with mineral spirits to remove any grease or oils and the primed for rust prevention.
The center hole visible will permit filling with dry sand to deaden the pier and stop vibrations in the steel.
The completed pier was later painted white for improved visibility in the darkness.
